Hermann Boettger

Karl Hermann Böttger (born May 11, 1878 in Dresden , † after May 1943 ) was a German cameraman .

Life

Böttger, son of the Dresden shoemaker Gottlieb Hermann Böttger, began training as a photographer at the age of 14 and worked primarily as a portrait photographer in this profession for two decades. From 1909 he was a cameraman for the new type of cinematography. He especially cooperated with director Max Mack , with whom he was responsible for the first well-known German feature film Der Andere in 1913 .

In 1915 Böttger was called up for military service. After the end of the war he continued his career as a cameraman, but in the age of the unleashed camera and new dissolving techniques, he was rarely used. From 1935 to 1938 he was deputy head of the camera department in the film department of the Reichsfilmkammer .

He then shot a few advertising and industrial films . In 1940 he suffered a stroke, after which he ran errands for 250 Reichsmarks a month. On the occasion of his 65th birthday in May 1943, the impoverished film pioneer received a gift from the NS-Stiftung Künstlerdank . After that his track is lost.

He had been married to the tailor Leonie Kühr since 1904.
