Where's coletti is a German detective comedy directed by Max Mack from 1913.
action
The detective Jean Coletti managed to catch a bank robber within 48 hours. A local newspaper in Berlin spreads the opinion that the criminal would have been found much faster if the press had been switched on in good time and a profile had been published.
Coletti then suggests hiding in Berlin for 48 hours and being searched for. He promises a reward of 100,000 marks to those who find him during this time. He also has his profile with a photo posted everywhere. Coletti pretends to be a street sweeper, the barber Anton is disguised as Coletti.
The amateur investigators are sitting on the wrong Coletti. A chase leads over the open upper deck of a bus, through Berlin-Tiergarten, to the airfield and into an airship. In this he is seized by a resolute lady who drags him into the newspaper office. However, you quickly realize that it is not the one you are actually looking for.
Next, a dog is put on the trail of Coletti. It is brought in a basket into the cloakroom of Coletti's friend, the variety dancer Lolotte. At an invitation from a count to Lolotte, Coletti takes part disguised as a woman, as does the count's old father. You visit a movie theater showing a report on the hunt for Coletti. They spend the last half hour of the search time together in a separate room.
Five minutes into the 48 hours, Coletti is finally tracked down, but he has won his experiment.
background
Where's coletti was made two months after Mack's film The Other and became very popular with audiences. As in other German films of the 1910s, the director and the scriptwriter are introduced in the picture at the beginning of the film and the actors are pulled out of a roll of paper using a film trick.
The film, shot in Berlin for the Vitascope company, premiered on April 4, 1913 in the Kammer-Lichtspiele at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. The film architect was Hermann Warm .
publication
The State Film Archive of the GDR released a version shortened to 16 minutes as DEFA home film No. 222 (see web links). To date (2014) this has remained the only release of parts of the film on a purchase medium.
