Hermann Bürgi

Hermann Bürgi (born February 18, 1946 in Frauenfeld ) is a Swiss politician ( SVP ). He represented the Canton of Thurgau in the Council of States from 1999 to 2011 .

Bürgi works as a lawyer (Dr. iur.) And senior partner in a law firm in Frauenfeld. He is married, has two children and lives in Dussnang .

Bürgi studied in Zurich and was admitted to the bar in 1973. He started his political career in 1974 as a member of the Dussnang school board. In 1976 he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Thurgau. He resigned from both offices in 1986 as he was elected to the government council, of which he was a member until 1996. During his time as a government councilor, he headed the two departments of Justice and Security and Education and Culture, and in 1989 and 1994 he was President of the Government. In the 1999 elections , he and Philipp Stähelin were elected to the Council of States for the Canton of Thurgau and were confirmed in 2003 and 2007. In January 2011 Bürgi announced his resignation at the end of the legislature.
