Hermann Bay (born November 3, 1901 in Stuttgart , † September 3, 1985 in Hamburg ) was a German civil engineer. He was an engineer at Wayss & Freytag and was particularly active in bridge construction (reinforced and prestressed concrete).

Life

Bay studied civil engineering at the TH Stuttgart from 1920 to 1924 and was then an engineer at Wayss & Freytag in Berlin (under the senior engineer Georg Ehlers ). In 1927 he became Emil Mörsch's assistant at the TH Stuttgart and from 1929 he was again at Wayss & Freytag (under the chief engineer Fritz Haupt). In 1931 he received his doctorate (dissertation on the state of tension in high girders and the reinforcement of reinforced concrete structural walls ) and completed a thesis on arched panels from 1932 to 1934 with a grant from the Notgemeinschaft der Deutschen Wissenschaft before he returned to Wayss & Freytag. There he was from 1934 to 1936 clerk for bridges in the Berlin office and from 1936 to 1938 head of the bridge construction department at its headquarters in Frankfurt. From 1938 to 1953 he managed the company's branch in Hamburg. In 1954 he rose to the board.

In 1954 he became a member of the German Committee for Reinforced Concrete. From 1958 to 1972 he was on the board of the German Concrete and Construction Technology Association (DBV), whose Emil Mörsch medal he received in 1965.
