Hermann Benker

Hermann Benker (born May 3, 1939 in Marktleuthen ) is a German SPD politician .

Life and work

After secondary school, Benker, who is of Protestant faith, completed an apprenticeship as a blacksmith, which he completed with the journeyman's examination. After initially working in the profession he had learned, he joined the Bundeswehr in 1960 . Initially working as a seaman , he was trained as a ship engineer and worked on board as a technical officer until 1970 . He was then a marine instructor until 1988 . From 1992 to 1995 he was chairman of the workers' welfare organization in the Ostholstein district . On January 14, 1998, at the suggestion of the Schleswig-Holstein state government, he was awarded the Cross of Merit on the ribbon of the Federal Cross of Merit .

Political party

Benker joined the Young Socialists in 1960 and the SPD in 1964. From 1973 to 2005 he was the local chairman of the SPD in Neustadt in Holstein . From 1987 he was a member of the district board in the Ostholstein district . He is a member of the security policy advisory board of the SPD Schleswig-Holstein.

MP

From 1974 to 1998 Benker was a city councilor in Neustadt in Holstein, where he also belonged to the city's magistrate until 1990. From 1988 to 1996 and from December 1, 1998, when he replaced Uwe Döring until 2005, he was a member of the state parliament in Schleswig-Holstein. He represented the constituency of Eutin- Nord in parliament. From 1992 to 1996 he was deputy chairman of the economic committee of the state parliament.
