Hermann Brandt (born October 6, 1897 in La Chaux-de-Fonds , † November 15, 1972 in Geneva ) was a Swiss sports doctor . He became known for developing the sport of tchoukball .

Sports medicine activities

After studying medicine and biology, Brandt practiced in Geneva and, since the 1920s, has made a special contribution to sports medicine. On his initiative, sports medicine examinations were introduced in the Geneva gymnastics club in 1928. In the 1930s and 1940s he supported the introduction of volleyball for women in Switzerland. After the war he worked as a team doctor in various sports (volleyball, handball, disabled sports).

Development of Tchoukball

Brandt's particular focus was always on avoiding injuries. In the 1960s, this was also the reason for his considerations on creating a ball game without physical use against his teammates: Tchoukball. Originally intended as a game and training tool, the sport is now practiced in many countries. In 1971, the FITB, an international association, was founded, whose first president was Brandt until his death.
