Hermann Claass

Hermann Claaß (* 1841 in Marienau, Marienwerder district , West Prussia ; † 1914 in Königsberg i. Pr. ) Was a German pharmacist and dental technician .

In 1895 Claaß directed the Northeast German Trade Exhibition in Königsberg. He represented Lord Mayor Karl Selke's idea of creating a zoo and taking over the exhibition's wooden buildings. The zoo association was founded in 1895 under the chairmanship of Max Braun (zoologist) . The Königsberg zoo was opened in 1896. Claaß was director from 1897 to 1913.
