After his release from the Oslebshausen prison in June 1941, he made contact with his comrades again and took part in the resistance network of shipyard workers Leo Drabent and Hans Neumann and the Bästlein-Jacob-Abshagen group . On March 29, 1943 he was arrested again by the Gestapo. On October 13, 1944, there was a “judgment” by the People's Court , with which Hermann Cornelius was sentenced to three years in prison for high treason . This time he was transferred to prison in Celle for imprisonment , where he died on February 25, 1945 as a result of the abuse by the Gestapo .
