Life

Hermann Droste zu Vischering was born as the son of Heinrich Droste zu Vischering and his wife Margaretha ?? a family that emerged from the tribe of Wulfheim (Drosten von Dülmen) and has also had this family name as Drosten zu Vischering since 1309 . Numerous well-known personalities emerged from this noble family , which is one of the most important in the Münsterland . Hermann had been a canon of the cathedral chapter since September 1412 . On July 27, 1450, as senior of the chapter, he joined some other canons in the protest against the appointment of Walram von Moers as bishop. The election of bishops led to the Munster collegiate feud . In April 1451 the city of Münster appealed to Pope Nicholas V against the confirmation of the election of Bishop Walram. Hermann joined this and received a confirmation from the city on April 15 that they guaranteed him indemnification. Nevertheless, Walram von Moers banned him on August 16, 1451 . The canons Heinrich Korff called Schmising and Hugo von Schagen suffered the same fate.
