Hermann Engel (born August 3, 1899 in Oldenburg , † August 26, 1975 in Bremen ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and President of the Bremen Parliament .

biography

Engel was a commercial clerk. In 1926 he joined the SPD. As an employee of the general local health insurance fund , he was dismissed for political reasons in 1933 and therefore arrested in 1934. In a political process he was sentenced to 1 years in prison. After the Second World War , he initially worked as a helper in tax matters. In 1946 he became a member of the Bremen citizenship . From 1957 to 1966 he was the spokesman for the finance deputation and the budget committee, as well as deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. From 1966 to 1970 he succeeded August Hagedorn as the second president of the Bremen citizenship. He followed in this officeDieter Klink .
