Hermann Gallos
Hermann Gallos ( January 21, 1886 in Vienna - February 20, 1957 there ) was an Austrian opera singer ( tenor ). He was a long-time ensemble member of the Vienna State Opera and performed regularly at the Salzburg Festival from 1922 to 1950 .
Life
Gallos sang mostly classic buffo roles and was often heard in significant supporting tenor roles. In 1922, the first year that operas were performed at the Salzburg Festival, he played Pedrillo and Curzio , both operas conducted by Franz Schalk . He was involved several times in premieres after the renovation of the Festspielhaus : in 1927 and 1936 as Jaquino in Fidelio , in 1938 as Augustino Moser in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and in 1939 as Valzacchi in Rosenkavalier . He sang under important conductors such as Arturo Toscanini , Wilhelm Furtwängler and Karl Böhm .
Gallos also taught at the Vienna Music Academy , among other things he was the teacher of Hans Braun and Walter Berry .
He was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 33F, Row 12, Number 8).
