Hermann Gerisch

Hermann Gerisch (born June 24, 1910 in Lengenfeld (Vogtland) ; † February 11, 1994 there ) was a German teacher, local researcher and dialect poet of the Saxon Vogtland.

Life

After attending primary school, Hermann Gerisch went to high school and then to Leipzig to study pedagogy . During the Second World War he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and became a prisoner of war. After his release he returned to the Vogtland and became a teacher of German and biology. He practiced this profession until he reached retirement age.

He discovered his love for nature and home early on. After the Second World War he became a member of the Kulturbund for the democratic renewal of Germany , whose local group Lengenfeld (Vogtland) he later headed.

As a child he had already studied butterflies, which he collected and entomologically researched. He later founded an entomology study group . Several articles on this topic were written for specialist journals. Shortly before his death, he organized the special exhibition called the Wonder World of Insects in Rodewisch, which was described as his life's work .

For 27 years he headed the local history museum in Lengenfeld, through which he offered tours on Sundays and by arrangement.

From 1967 Hermann Gerisch participated in the annual publication of the Reichenbach calendar . In 1972 he took over the chairmanship of the editorial board. He also wrote for the Vogtland homeland sheets , which had been published in the GDR since the late 1970s, and the yearbook Unser Vogtland .

He also worked as a dialect poet and storyteller. His dialect publication Von mir und mann Leiten was published in the Kulturbund . Stories in the Vogtland dialect .

The directory of the scientific entomological publications by Hermann Gerisch compiled by Rolf Reinhardt appeared in 1994 in Entomologische Nachrichten undberichte , 39, 1994, No. 2, pp. 141-142.

Honors

1990 Appointment as honorary citizen of the city of Lengenfeld (Vogtland) . A street in Lengenfeld was also named after him.
