Hermann Kasten (Manager)

Hermann Kasten (born July 22, 1956 in Hanover ) is a German insurance manager. He has been CEO of VGH Insurance since 2012 . As a functionary, he headed the Association of Public Insurers between 2016 and 2019 .

Career

Kasten studied at the Georg-August University in Göttingen until 1982 , after which the agricultural engineer worked as a consultant in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forests until 1985. In 1985 he moved to the Lower Saxony Savings Banks and Giro Association, where he was promoted to head of division responsible for the association's investments.

In 2000, Kasten joined the public insurance group VGH Versicherungen, where he was responsible for the sales partner savings banks, holdings and corporate development. From 2003 he was a deputy member of the board of directors responsible for the internal department with the areas of corporate development and overall IT coordination, and in the following year he was appointed a full board member. At the beginning of 2011 he was promoted to Deputy Chairman of the Board of VGH Insurance. After Robert Pohlhausen retired at the end of June 2012, he took over his role as CEO. He will retire on July 1, 2020, when Ulrich Knemeyer will take over the management of the insurance company.

In 2016, Kasten was elected by the general meeting of the Association of Public Insurers as the successor to Ulrich-Bernd Wolff von der Sahl as the new Chairman of the Administrative Board and thus the Association's Chairman. In November 2019, his previous deputy, Wolfgang Breuer, was elected as the new president's successor. He then stayed on as a simple member of the Board of Directors. In addition, he held various association functions at the German Insurance Association .
