Hermann Knöppel

Hermann Knöppel (born October 15, 1956 ) is a German football player .

Career

In his childhood, Knöppel, who comes from Enkenbach-Alsenborn , started playing football at SV Alsenborn . In 1964 his family moved to Nümbrecht , where he joined the TuS Homburg-Bröltal . In 1969 he moved to SSV Homburg-Nümbrecht . At the age of fourteen he was drawn to 1. FC Köln , where he started after a successful trial training session in the C1 youth group. In 1974 he became Middle Rhine Champion and German runner-up of the A-Youth in Cologne. In August 1974, he completed two international matches for the German A youth national team. In 1975 he was again with the A-Jugend Mittelrheinmeister.

For the 1975/76 season Knöppel moved to the 2nd team of 1. FC Cologne. At the same time, he began training as an industrial clerk at a machine operator . In 1976 he became Middle Rhine Champion. For the 1977/78 season he was appointed by Hennes Weisweiler to the squad of the first team, but moved back to the amateur team in October, with which he again won the Middle Rhine Championship in 1981, as he was not ready according to Weisweiler.

Coach Rinus Michels used the defender three times at the end of the 1980/81 season for 1. FC Köln . While he was only allowed to play in the final minutes twice, he played on May 30, 1981 against Borussia Dortmund for a full 90 minutes and even scored the 1-0 for Cologne. The game ended 2-2. This was immediately his last assignment in the professional billy goat team. In the same year Knöppel became the German amateur champion with the 2nd team against FC St. Pauli .

1. FC Köln offered Knöppel a professional contract for the 1981/1982 season, which he refused. Since Cologne had already signed Paul Steiner in his position as central defender for the new season , Knöppel expected only small chances of use. In 1987 Knöppel said goodbye to 1. FC Köln after almost 500 games. Until 1990 he was player- coach in his place of residence at SSV Weilerswist and then coach until 1993. Then he trained the 1st team of Fortuna Hürth-Knapsack until 1997.

Knöppel was married and has a son. Professionally, Knöppel works as the head of accounts receivable and the credit department at a subsidiary of the Gauselmann Group .
