Hermann Knuchel

Hermann Knuchel (born October 15, 1884 in Schüpfen , † July 31, 1964 in Männedorf ; reformed , resident in Tscheppach ) was a Swiss forest scientist .

Life

Hermann Knuchel was born on October 15, 1884 in Schüpfen as the son of the managing director Johann Knuchel and his wife Maria nee Schneider. Knuchel studied forest sciences at the Zurich Polytechnic and graduated as a forest manager in 1906 . In 1914 he received his doctorate . In 1908 he was appointed as an assistant to the Swiss Central Institute for Forest Research in Zurich . In 1917 he was employed as the district forester in Klettgau . From 1922 to 1952 Knuchel held a professorship for forest sciences at the ETH Zurich.

Hermann Knuchel, who married Anna Ida Minna, born Wolfhagen in 1910, died on July 31, 1964 just before he was 80 years old in Männedorf.

Act

Hermann Knuchel promoted above all the plenter economy and forest control methods. His textbook Planning and Control in Forest Operations , published in 1950, has been translated into numerous languages ​​and is considered a basic work. In addition, he worked from 1922 to 1945 as editor of the Swiss Forestry Journal .
