Hermann Lorenz (born June 15, 1860 in Weißensee (Thuringia) , † January 4, 1945 in Quedlinburg ) was a German director of studies, archivist and local history researcher.

Life

Hermann Lorenz came from the small Prussian town of Weißensee in the province of Saxony . During his studies in 1881 he became a member of the Arminia fraternity in Leipzig . After receiving his doctorate, he became director of studies in the city of Quedlinburg and took over the management of the council archives on a voluntary basis. Until his age-related retirement in 1926, he was director of the GutsMuths-Realoberschule in Quedlinburg . Most recently he was city elder. At the same time he was chairman of the Quedlinburg History and Antiquity Society and the state archivist of the city of Quedlinburg. On November 1, 1938, he had to resign from the management of the council archives for reasons of age; the following year he also resigned from the position of state archivist. He died shortly before the end of the war on January 4, 1945.

In 1905/06 he had the villa Adelheidstrasse 12a built in Quedlinburg for himself .

He left numerous publications on local history.
