Hermann Heinrich Albert von Michalowski (born January 1, 1860 in Berlin ; † September 28, 1903 in Chicago ) was a German panorama painter who worked in the United States .

Born as the eldest of eight children of the mechanical engineer Albert von Michalowski and his wife Mina Schmuck, he married Marie Theresa Rombach.

On October 26, 1883, at the age of 23, he began studying painting at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich .

In April 1885 he came to America on board the steamship “Fulda” together with August Lohr from Munich, Franz Rohrbeck from Berlin, Friedrich Wilhelm Heine and Bernhard Schneider from Dresden . The artists were commissioned by William Wehner of the American Panorama Co. to paint at least seven panorama pictures.

Michalowski settled in Milwaukee and owned a studio there from 1889 to 1990 and from 1891 to 1893. In addition to portraits, he created murals in numerous buildings in Milwaukee, including the residence of the brewer Emil Schandein. In 1894 he painted two altarpieces for the Catholic Church of St Bernard in Watertown , Wisconsin .

In 1895 he moved to Chicago . On October 20, 1896, he was granted American citizenship. He died of pulmonary tuberculosis at the age of 43.
