Hermann Pöge

Friedrich Hermann Pöge (born November 19, 1840 in Körlitz (today Lossatal ), † 1894 ) was an entrepreneur who founded the first electrotechnical company in Saxony .

Life

At the Hugerhoff company in Leipzig he trained as a mechanic and from 1866 worked for various companies in Chemnitz , including as a foreman in the Kappel machine factory .

In 1869 his son Friedrich Elias Willibald Pöge ( Willy ) was born.

On May 1st, 1874 he founded the Chemnitz Telegraphenbauanstalt Hermann Pöge, the first electrotechnical company in Saxony. First he built bell and telegraph systems with an apprentice in the attic of his house. In the following year he moved to Zwickauer Str. 81 and began building lightning rods.

When he found out about the invention of the telephone in 1877, he first imported a few from America and later built them himself. In 1880 he moved to Brückenstraße 31 and switched to machine production. With his chief engineer Emil Gottfried Fischinger , he also began producing dynamo machines .

In 1881 he joined the Chemnitz Natural Science Society and attended the electricity exhibition in Paris . In the winter semester of 1886/87, he and Willy visited the subject of electrical engineering with Adolf Ferdinand Weinhold as guest auditors . During this time he had over 40 employees and fitters.
