Hermann Reemtsma Foundation
The Hermann Reemtsma Foundation (often written without a hyphen) is a private, non-profit foundation under civil law based in the so-called Landhaus Baur , also called "Elbschlösschen", by Christian Frederik Hansen in Hamburg-Nienstedten .
The foundation established by Hermann-Hinrich Reemtsma in 1988 in memory of his father Hermann Fürchtegott Reemtsma supports projects of institutions and initiatives in the fields of science and culture as well as charitable causes in northern Germany . Only non-profit institutions and initiatives are funded, not individuals.
The Hermann Reemtsma Foundation was awarded the Gustav Schiefler Medal by the Lichtwark Society.
The foundation usually cooperates with other foundations on its projects.
Support areas
The foundation supports projects that serve the preservation of culture ( monument protection , monument preservation ); this includes restoration or redevelopment , if necessary also the acquisition, scientific support and the presentation of cultural assets . In addition, the foundation also supports projects relating to care for the elderly, the sick and the handicapped, as well as preventive childcare.
Examples of funded projects are:
- the restoration of the Arp Schnitger organ in St. Jacobi in Hamburg,
- the restoration of the Marien Altar from Hamburg Cathedral,
- the purchase of the Florilegium Moller and the Gustav Schiefler estate for the Hamburg State Library and the Frielinghaus estate for the Kunsthalle Hamburg ,
- the expansion of the Bergedorf studio house,
- the maintenance of the Ernst-Barlach-Haus in Hamburg,
- the renovation of the Belvedere on the Pfingstberg in Potsdam,
- the restoration of the organs of the St. Marien Church (Stralsund) .
In addition, the foundation acquired the Landhaus Baur (Elbschlösschen) and renovated it for its own purposes.
