Hermann Rohrbeck

Hermann Rohrbeck (born February 28, 1899 in Berlin ; † February 22, 1978 there ) was a German jazz and entertainment musician ( violin , composition, arrangement, orchestral direction).

Career

Rohrbeck studied violin at the Stern Conservatory . From 1915 he played in a salon orchestra that performed in the Berlin Hotel Excelsior . In the 1920s he was enthusiastic about jazz and founded his jazz symphonic orchestra , with whom he appeared in the relevant establishments in Berlin, e.g. B. in the Barberina on Steinplatz or in Ballhaus Resi in Blumenstrasse, later in the Hotel Excelsior at Anhalter Bahnhof , in the Moka Efti and in the Femina-Palast . The "remarkable for swing fans" formation went on numerous concert tours. From the mid-1930s until the 1950s, Rohrbeck worked with his orchestra on the express steamers of the North German Lloyd , such as the TS Bremen . His orchestra included musicians such as the saxophonist Rudi Rischbeck , the trombonist Rudi Arndt, the violinist Walter Leschetitzky and the drummers Willy Kettel and Longin Leffler. Rohrbeck recorded records for His Master's Voice , Electrola and Gloria .
