Hermann Ruer

Hermann Ruer (born January 19, 1828 in Meschede ; † August 2, 1890 ) was a German general practitioner and practiced in Meschede, Ramsbeck and Münster .

Hermann Ruer came from a Jewish family of doctors. The father David Ruer was a general practitioner in Meschede. Julius Wilhelm Ruer , the father's brother, was the founding director of the Marsberg State Hospital , from which the Provincial Insane Asylum of Westphalia emerged in 1816. Hermann Ruer also studied medicine and received his doctorate from the University of Berlin in 1851. med. Then, from 1852, he practiced in Meschede and from 1854 in Ramsbeck.

In 1854 a hospital was built in Ramsbeck. 5 Sisters of the Order of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Karl Borromeo took over the nursing. Ruer took over the management of this hospital as miners' surgeon. Shortly after opening, this hospital was already occupied with 70 to 100 patients. The achievements of the doctors were recognized by the mine management: "... of the two tireless doctors Ruer (junior) and Voss, the former showing a brilliant ability in his field, and both proving themselves to be solid doctors"

In 1856, at the end of the mining boom, the hospital was closed again. The sisters moved back to their mother house in Nancy and Trier , respectively , and the inventory and furniture were sold. The building itself was still used for residential purposes. Ruer continued to practice in Ramsbeck. The fate of his family, four children died of childhood diseases that can now be cured, touched patients and friends. After 1871 the Ruer family moved to Münster.
