David Ruer

David Ruer (born March 13, 1802 in Meschede ; † December 4, 1874 ibid) was a German general practitioner and practiced in Meschede.

Live and act

David Ruer came from a Jewish family of doctors. The father Herz Israel Ruer was a general practitioner in Meschede. Julius Wilhelm Ruer , the brother, was the founding director of the Marsberg State Hospital , from which the Provincial Insane Asylum of Westphalia emerged in 1816. David Ruer attended the grammar schools in Soest and Arnsberg . From 1821 he studied medicine at the University of Göttingen . In 1823 he moved to the University of Berlin . Here he received his doctorate in 1824. med. On June 13, 1824, Ruer was licensed by the Royal Ministry of Spiritual, Educational and Medicinal Affairs as a general practitioner in the Royal Lands . In the following years he practiced in Meschede . In 1854 he was elected chairman of the synagogue district of Meschede. During the raging epidemic in Meschede in 1857, he distinguished himself through selfless, undaunted and zealous commitment. For his services, Ruer received the Red Eagle Order IV class from the sovereign .

On March 6, 1827, he married Friedericka Elsbacher, * 1793, in Neuenkirchen ; † May 15, 1871 in Meschede. The following children were born from the marriage:
