Hermann Spamer

Hermann Spamer (born June 3, 1830 in Hermannstein near Wetzlar; † November 5, 1905 in Gießen ) was a German manager in the coal and steel industry .

Life

Spamer, son of a pastor, studied natural sciences at the University of Giessen in 1858 , where he was a member of the Corps Teutonia . Not satisfied with his choice of subject, he initially practiced in various mines and smelters and finally switched to the mining subject in the winter semester of 1861/1862 by taking up studies at the Freiberg Mining Academy, where he joined the Corps Franconia . In 1863/1864 he studied iron and steel engineering at the University of Leoben . Here he joined the Corps Tauriscia.

Spamer joined the Ilseder Hütte in 1867 as technical director , which under his leadership grew considerably. From 1868 he was also a member of the company's board of directors. He introduced the fluorspar process in 1871 and the Thomas process in 1879 . The production of the Ilseder blast furnaces increased tenfold under Spamer's leadership. In 1898 he joined as director in retirement . In 1899 he was elected to the company's board of directors. He had been a member of the supervisory board of the Peiner Walzwerk since around 1875/1876.
