Hermann Toppius (* 1612 in Seesen , † 1675 in Holzminden ) was an Evangelical Lutheran clergyman, general superintendent of Holzminden and 20th abbot of the Amelungsborn monastery .

Life

Toppius studied theology in Helmstedt from 1641 , was a collegiate in Riddagshausen , and then went to Kurland , probably on the recommendation of duke August II , as a preacher at the German community in Duorien. Later he was a preposition in Grotin. In 1653 he was recalled by August and in 1654, against the will of the council of the city of Holzminden, he was appointed general superintendent of Holzminden and pastor of the local church. In 1655 the Duke awarded him the Amelungsborn prelature. Toppius was the first abbot appointed according to the monastery order of 1655, whose function has since been permanently linked to the office of general superintendent in Holzminden. This also removed the abbot's residence obligation in the monastery. The abbot's permanent residence was Holzminden. The abbot had a seat and vote in the state parliament. Toppius was in high favor with the duke. Contrary to the original intention of the monastery order of 1655, he enforced that the monastery school continued to prepare young men for the study of theology and thus prepared the continuation of the monastery school in the form of today's high school in Holzminden at a crucial point.
