Hermann von Langen (Canon)

Hermann von Langen (* in the 15th century; † October 22, 1491 in Münster ) was canon in Münster .

Life

Origin and family

Hermann von Langen came from the Westphalian noble family von Langen and was the son of Dietrich von Langen (former canon and provost of St. Mauritz) and his wife Sophia NN. His brother Rudolf was an important early humanist. Hermann von Langen , his uncle of the same name, was cathedral dean in Münster from 1503 to 1508.

Act

Hermann is mentioned for the first time in 1461 as a member of the cathedral chapter of Münster. His election as provost of St. Mauritz in Münster fell on December 2, 1471. A short time later, on January 4, 1472, he took his oath of office. Since Hermann was often on the road in the service of Bishop Heinrich, on December 30, 1483 he commissioned his uncle Hermann to act as the provost's representative.
