Hermon Phillips
Hermon Phillips ( Hermon Edgar Phillips ; born August 2, 1903 in Rushville , Indiana , † February 16, 1986 in Fort Wayne ) was an American sprinter who specialized in the 400-meter run .
In 1928 he qualified as third in the US championships for the Olympic Games in Amsterdam , where he was sixth.
In 1927 he became the US champion over 440 yards . Over the same distance he was starting from 1925 to 1927 for Butler University three times in a row NCAA champions. He set his personal best over 440 yards of 47.4 s (equivalent to 47.1 s over 400 m) on May 5, 1928 in Madison .
