Hernándo Sánchez-Mejorada

Hernándo Sánchez-Mejorada or his full name Hernándo Sánchez-Mejorada Rodríguez (born October 30, 1926 in Pachuca , † March 11, 1988 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican businessman and botanist . His main scientific field of work was the taxonomy of the cactus plants and the thick-leaf plants . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Sánchez-Mej. ".

Life

Hernando Sánchez-Mejorada studied in Mexico City and at the University of Lexington, Mass. In 1969 he gave up his commercial career to devote himself entirely to botany . First he got a position as a technical research assistant at the Botanical Garden of the University of Mexico. His extensive knowledge of Mexican succulents led him to a position at Helia Bravo Hollis , with whom he worked for many years on the revision of the second edition of Las Cactáceas de México . He also campaigned for the protection of Mexican cacti and export regulations.

For several years Sánchez-Mejorada worked actively in the Mexican Cactus Society and the Botanical Society of Mexico, also as an author and editorial assistant for the magazine Cactáceas y Succulentas Mexicanas .

Dedication names

After Hernando Sánchez-Mejorada Echeveria sanchez-mejoradae and Thelocactus sanchez-mejoradae (a synonym of Thelocactus leucacanthus ) were named. The Botanical Garden Cactario Regional y Jardin Botanico "Hernando Sanchez Mejorada" del Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey Campus in Querétaro bears his name.
