Herol Graham (born May 13, 1959 in Nottingham , England ) is a retired British boxer .

amateur

In 1976 the southpaw was welterweight junior champion against John Mugabi . In 1977 he was second in the English championships, in 1978 he won the light middleweight division.

professional

He then became a professional under the famous coach Brendon Ingle (also trained Naseem Hamed ) and was finally recognized as a world-class middleweight man with a knockout over a now 34-year-old Ayub Kalule in a European championship fight. His battle name "Bomber" was completely inappropriate, he was a counter-boxer with a rather average punch, sometimes changing the display as a so-called "switchhitter". He had already signed the contract with Iran Barkley for the World Cup when he was sensationally beaten by Sumbu Kalambay .

It was not until 1989 that he was able to reach a World Cup fight and was defeated by Mike McCallum (who had also received his only defeat against Kalambay) just on points.

In 1990 he challenged Julian Jackson , dominated him for three rounds at will, before he really wanted to achieve a knockout, attacked wildly and ran into one of the most famous Kos of all time. When Jackson's right hook hit his chin, he was knocked out while standing and fell over as if struck by lightning.

According to judges, he lost a rematch against Kalambay in Italy, the result was considered a scandal in England, but he lost the next fight against his limited compatriot Grant by knockout and stopped for the time being.

In a comeback in the super middleweight division in 1996/97, he knocked the Canadian Olympian Chris Johnson out and beat Vinnie Pazeienza on points. In a title shot against Charles Brewer , he scored two knockdowns and led on points before Brewer succeeded in the tenth round of the knockout win. Now he stopped for good.
