Mr. Seele is the pseudonym of Peter van Heirseele (born April 13, 1959 in Torhout ) is a Belgian (Flemish) artist, cartoonist and presenter. He is known with Kamagurka as the illustrator of the absurd comic book Cowboy Henk , which appears in the Belgian weekly magazine Humo .

Career

Van Heirseele visited the age of sixteen, the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent , studied piano tuners and restorers in Wales and trained as a restorer in Florence .

In 1981 he began to publish the absurd comic Cowboy Henk as Herr Seele (a corruption of his surname ) with Kamagurka , originally for the newspaper Vooruit, now De Morgen , then also in the weekly newspaper Humo . Kamagurka is responsible for the [[script (comic) | script]] and Mr. Seele is responsible for the drawing.

Since then, he has put on an absurd theater show with Kamagurka every year . The comic book Cowboy Henk was published from Scandinavia to the USA. 1994 became a comic for the album cover Steelt de Schouw! used by the musician Father Mouscron.

Mr. Seele has been working for television since 1983. The first program was called Atmospheric Bullshitting and was written by Kamagurka. A 20-part series Kamagurka and Herr Seele followed in 1985 , written by the duo for the Dutch broadcaster VPRO . Johnnywood , Lava and other broadcasts followed later . Mr. Seele also did solo programs for radio and television. In 2008 he finished 7th in 71 ° North .

The main occupation of Mr. Seele is painting.

He also created a collection of historical pianos with around 200 instruments in Ostend .

Mr. Seele also works for the Dement Oostende action group , which protests against the demolition of traditional houses.

Private

In March 2019 he married the writer Katia Belloy for the second time.
