Manor house at Gut Büttelkow

The manor house Büttelkow is located in the Büttelkow district of the municipality of Biendorf in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , between Rerik and Kühlungsborn .

Already in the Stone Age people lived in Büttelkow because of the geomantically excellent location, later Slavs in the moated castle Büttelkow, the Cistercian monks in the 12th century and the landowners for 700 years.

The original manor house of the Büttelkow manor - now called Haus im Park - stands on a ground monument, an old Slavonic fortification. It stands on 800 year old foundation walls that were rebuilt by Cistercian monks. The house in the park was the original manor house until 1910/1912, but in 1912 it was dismantled except for the right wing to allow access to the newly built manor house and used as the estate inspector's house.

The new Buettelkow mansion was built around 1910/1912 by the Ballin family from Oldenburg (bankers) based on the designs of the architect Paul Korff (Landbaubüro Laage). It is a two-storey plastered building with eleven axes above a high basement. The three central axes of the courtyard front are accentuated by a dwelling with a lunette gable and ox-eye, a balcony supported by pillars and an outside staircase. Inside, the house was equipped with the latest technology at the time; For example, Korff installed a central vacuum cleaner system and central heating with hot water supply and provided the manor house , the first of its kind in this region, with reinforced concrete ceilings on all floors .

Elements of neo-baroque as well as classicism and art nouveau can be found on the building . The mansion is located in a park with old trees. The pond belonging to it is now also used as a fire fighting pond and is protected as a ground monument because it was part of the old weir system. Originally about 240 hectares of agricultural land belonged to Gut Büttelkow.

In its eventful history, the manor house was used as a refugee hostel, registry office, police station and cinema, among other things. In 1999 it was bought by Herrenhaus GbR, Antje Sachse and Andreas Renner, who lovingly remodeled the premises and turned them into seminar rooms and holiday apartments.

Owner of the Büttelkow estate: until 1791 Schwerin Cathedral, 1792–1810 Andreas Gottfried Russow, 1810–1811 von Plessen, 1811–1817 Andreas Gottfried Russow (see Gersdorf), 1817–1840 FNA Thomsen, 1840–1848 Heinrich Wohlert, 1848–1899 Carl Iven, 1899– (1916) Ernst Ballin and until 1945 the Ballin family (bankers from Oldenburg).
