history

The Herrenmühle is one of the oldest buildings in the city. It was built in the middle of the 16th century and replaced an older mill on the opposite side of the river a little further downstream, which was probably built during the settlement of Schwarzenberg and has now been decommissioned due to dilapidation and outdated technology. After standing in desolation for a few years, it was bought by the tanner Endres Schwendter in 1564, who converted it into a wage mill. In 1549 the new manor mill for 157 Schock and a new mill moat were built. The stone basement was built largely from river stones from the Black Water. The upper part was executed in half-timbered construction.

The name of the mill indicates that it was Dominialgut. The master mill was equipped with the compulsory meal and had the baking justice. She milled compulsorily for the towns of Bermsgrün , Crandorf , Rittersgrün and Breitenbrunn , which later freed themselves from the compulsory meal by creating their own grinding tunnels, including in the newly built hammer mills. The mill has also been used for baking since at least 1866. This year ovens were built into the building.

The outer shape of the mill was changed several times. The main building initially only consisted of a living room and bedroom for the miller's family and the mill. A pig and a cow shed were next to it. The mill was completely destroyed in a fire in 1673 and damaged again by the town fire in 1709. In 1883 the mill was connected to the railway. The area of the building was enlarged by an extension on the north wall. Having become too small for the increased requirements, this extension was partially removed in 1927 and expanded to include the west side.

The mill has not been used for several years. The building is a listed building . The demolition was decided in 2019 and demolished in 2020.
