Thomas Herrion

Thomas Herrion (born December 15, 1981 in Fort Worth , Texas , † August 20, 2005 in Denver , Colorado ) was an American football player .

Life

Thomas Herrion began his athletic career as a player for the Utah Utes from the University of Utah . In the 2004 season, the highly talented Herrion was a member of the training teams of the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys . From there he was loaned to the Hamburg Sea Devils in the NFL Europe for a short time in early 2005 . Herrion, 1.90 m tall and weighing 142.9 kg, reinforced the "offensive line" there. His nickname was "Big T" and also "Train". His most impressive feat, along with his dreaded blocks, was in 2004 when he picked up the ball his quarterback dropped and carried it 20 yards toward the end zone.

Herrion collapsed unconscious in the dressing room shortly after the end of a 49ers pre-season game against the Denver Broncos and died in hospital the same day.

At his autopsy, ischemic heart disease was found to be the cause of death . Herrion's right coronary artery was severely blocked, causing the heart muscle to die.
