The reign of Bartenstein , based at Bartenstein Castle in Bartenstein , today a district of Schrozberg in the Schwäbisch Hall district ( Baden-Württemberg ), belonged to the Knights of Bartenstein , who were feudal men of the empire and the bishop of Würzburg between 1247 and 1350 . After that, Bartenstein belonged to the Seldeneck , Rosenberg and Horneck von Hornberg families with all associated rights . Between 1438 and 1455 the Counts of Hohenlohe gradually acquired the rule . Bartenstein became the seat of a Hohenlohe bailiff . As a result of the Hohenlohe inheritance divisions , Bartenstein fell to the Hohenlohe-Waldenburg line in 1533/1555 and to the Hohenlohe-Waldenburg-Bartenstein line in 1688.

In the course of mediatization in 1806, the Bartenstein came under the sovereignty of Württemberg .
