The rule Buonas was a Medieval manorial system on the territory of the present municipality of Risch in central Switzerland . The center was the castle of the same name on Lake Zug . The rule of Buona was the origin of the Swiss Guard founded by Peter von Hertenstein . From 1250, the rule was owned by the Hertenstein family from Lucerne for around 400 years . The village of Buonas was in the western part of the manor . In 1798 it was merged with the Vogtei Gangolfswil to form the municipality of Risch.

History of domination

The Knights of Buonas (11th - 13th centuries)

The manorial rule of Buona cannot be described until the 11th century, as there were many loose alliances. As the first knight named after Buonas, we meet Immo von Buonas in the Acta Murensia . The first evidence was the appearance together with his son in a list of witnesses from January 22nd, 1130. This list of gifts, on which properties are given away to nobles, shows that Immo and his son Waldfried were followers of the once important barons of Regensberg . The ownership of a plot of land belonging to the Engelberg monastery in the rule of Buonas shows the relationship between the von Buonas and the von Regensberg families. Immo died on May 16 before 1140 and his daughter on April 13 until 1140 according to the Hermetschwil Book of the Dead .

The Lords of Hertenstein (~ 1250–1654)

As a result of the marriage of Adelheid von Buonas to Ulrich von Hertenstein, who was already known as Kollator von Risch on May 12, 1358, a hundred years later, the castle and rule passed to the Hertenstein family for around 400 years around 1250. With the death of Erasmus von Hertenstein on March 10, 1654, the line of Hertensteiners in Buonas closes. The rule passed to his sister Katharina von Hertenstein, who married Johann Martin Schwytzer from Lucerne six months later and handed over goods and dishes to her husband. But the collature of the two benefices of the Risch church remained on another branch of the Hertenstein.

Other owners of the estate (1654–1798)

After the death of Johann Martin Schwytzer in 1713, the rule of Buona passed to the Gügler, Felix, Thuringia, Bossard and Landtwing families. The last two, Damian Bossard and Blasius Landtwing, owned the rule jointly and also exercised the judicial rights jointly, which were lost without compensation as a result of the 1798 revolution.

administration

The lordship had an Ammann from Buona in the administration .

Buonas Castle and Palace

On the headland of the manor there was originally a castle, the origin of which - the date of construction is not known - can be dated back at least to the 11th century. In 1478 the Buonas castle burned down with many valuable family documents (it is assumed that it was arson), after which the castle was "restored". In 1380 the castle was bought by the Muri monastery . In the 17th century the now dilapidated old castle was torn down and rebuilt as a castle (without moats and walls) on a sheltered slope next to the old castle. After 1798 a park was created and another palace was built.
