Herta Mannheimer (born May 6, 1891 in Bütthard ; † September 10, 1943 in Auschwitz ) was a German local politician of the SPD .

Life

Herta Mannheimer was one of three daughters of the businessman Salomon Mannheimer and Johanna Mannheimer, nee. Wolf. In 1905 the von Bütthard family moved to Heidingsfeld (now part of Würzburg ), where the father received citizenship in 1911. After the early death of her mother, Herta Mannheimer ran the household.

In the local elections in 1924 she was elected as the only woman in the Heidingsfeld city council. She retained her mandate until it was incorporated into Würzburg on January 1, 1930.

After the death of her father, she emigrated in August 1937 first to Martensdijk near Utrecht , then to Amsterdam , where she lived in Merwedeplein 37, the last address of Anne Frank and her family. On March 9, 1943, Herta Mannheimer was taken to the Westerbork transit camp , from there to the Auschwitz concentration camp on September 7, 1943 , and murdered in the gas chamber on the day of her arrival.

In the 1960s, the city administration of Würzburg named the Herta-Mannheimer-Weg in Heidingsfeld after her. On April 13, 2007, a stumbling block was laid for them in front of the former home of the Mannheimer family at Kirchgasse 12 .
