Hervé Fischer (* 1941 in Paris ) is a French-Canadian multimedia - philosopher and artist .

life and work

He was a student at the ENS . His thesis was devoted to the sociology of color ( Université du Québec à Montréal ). He taught sociology in culture and communication as a professor at Paris V University for many years . As a multimedia artist , he founded the sociological art movement in 1971 . As part of this movement, he organized numerous events in which the population, the press, radio and television were involved. He organized these events in numerous countries in Europe and in Central and South America before settling in Québec in the 1980s .

Hervé Fischer was invited to the Venice Biennale in 1976, to the São Paulo Biennale in 1981 and to documenta 7 in Kassel in 1982 . He had solo exhibitions in 1974 in the Musée Galliéra, Paris, in 1975 at the ICC, Antwerp (1976), in the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de São Paulo (1980), in the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (1981) and in the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Mexico (1983). In 1985 he organized the participation of the Franco-Canadians in the project "Marco Polo", a novella under the auspices of Umberto Eco and Italo Calvino , in which French-speaking writers from Africa, Europe and Canada were involved, and computer interactivity as a basic used.

In 1999 he returned to painting with the theme of cyberspace and had exhibitions at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires, 2003, Museo Nacional de Artes Visuales, Montevideo, 2004, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Chile, 2006, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Neuquen, Argentina, 2009, Centro Wilfredo Lam, at the Xth Havana Biennale, 2009, MAM by Céret, France, 2010, Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Sao Paulo, 2011–2012. In 2011 he initiated the tweet art and devotes himself more and more to a philosophical art and the connection between art and myth. Since 2011 his painting has been exhibited in the ECI gallery in Paris.

Together with Ginette Mayor, Hervé Fischer is the founder of "La Cité des arts et des nouvelles technologies de Montréal", which from 1985 to 2001 promoted electronic and digital culture through international exhibitions and events. In 1998 they received the first Makepeace Tsao Award from the organization Leonardo / International Society for Arts, Science and Technolog (MIT-Press) for their exceptional achievement in this area.

"La Cité des arts et des nouvelles technologies de Montréal" organized the exhibitions Images du Futur and Cybermonde , the first Café électronique in Canada and an international competition for computer-animated films. Hervé Fischer and Ginette Major were the curators responsible for many international exhibitions.

Hervé Fischer co-founded Infographie Canada in 1986. He founded the film festival "Festival International du Film Scientifique du Québec", later called TéLéSCIENCE, in 1990 and he was general director of this event until 2000. In 1993 he developed the concept for the MIM (International Multimedia Fair).

He has been President of the International Federation for Multimedia Associations (International Federation Multimedia Associations) since 1997, of which he was the founder. In the same year he was appointed as a member of the selection committee for the Stendor Fund. He is also the co-founder and President of Science Pour Tous.

From 2000 to 2002 he held the Daniel Langlois chair for Digital Technologies and the Fine Arts at the University of Concordia, Montreal, and designed the Quebec Media Lab Hexagram. In 2007 he founded the Observatoire international du numérique, Université du Québec in Montréal.

Hervé Fischer has published numerous articles and books on the sociology of art and communication, as well as the digital era, mythoanalysis and the law of divergence.

In 1987 he was the producer and co-author of the 12 minute long computer-animated music video "Le Chant des étoiles". The National Computer Graphics Association , USA awarded this film the first prize for music videos in 1988 as part of their international competition.

He is an active member of the Board of Directors Artists For Peace (APLP).

He speaks French, English, Spanish and German.

Honors

He is doctor honoris causa of the Universités du Québec, Knight des Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and du Mérite national of France. In 2009 he received the Cuba Cultural Award and in 2011 the Cartier Prize for his contribution to digital culture and industry (Webcom Montreal).
