Herwig Kircher (born March 18, 1955 in Villach ) is a former Austrian national soccer player .

Career

Herwig Kircher started his career at the Kärntner Landesligaklub SV Treffen as a striker, later retired to midfield and was brought into the National League by Günter Praschak in 1972 for SK VÖEST Linz . With the "Kokslern" Herwig Kircher was able to become Austrian champion in 1973/74 and also made the leap into the Austrian national team . He made his debut in the 1-0 win against Hungary under Leopold Šťastný on September 28, 1974. After six seasons in Linz, at the end of which Herwig Kircher still reached the ÖFB Cup final in 1978, but there was defeated by SSW Innsbruck , the Carinthian moved to SV Austria Salzburg .

After only one year with the Mozart townspeople, Herwig Kircher accepted an offer from the French Division 1 in 1979 and went to Stade Lavallois for two years . Back in Austria, the midfielder played for SSW Innsbruck in 1981/82 , with whom he reached the ÖFB Cup final before he went back to Carinthia. Initially at SK Austria Klagenfurt in the 1st division, Herwig Kircher moved to SV Spittal / Drau in 1984 in the 2nd division , with which he was promoted to the 1st division for the first time in the club's history. Ultimately, it was also Spittal, his sixth first division club, where the former national player ended his professional career.
