The Herz-Jesu-Kirche in the Brock district is a dark red brick building, the southern facade of which houses a massive bell tower. The church is located in the middle of the Bock district, at the intersection of Ladberger and Schmedehausener Straße.

history

In 1894 a chapel was built, a clinker brick building that was 21 m long, 8.20 m wide and 13.5 m high and offered space for 188 visitors. After the chapel was demolished, the foundation stone for a new church was laid on April 30, 1933. On December 21 of the same year, the church was consecrated by Bishop Clemens August Graf von Galen . The main nave is 28.50 m long, 9.00 m wide and 11.60 m high, the side aisle 18.60 m long, 4.90 m wide and 4.60 m high. The tower has a height of 24 m. The church has seats for 320 visitors. In 1934 the Christ figure made of limewood (3.88 m, approx. 220 kg) was added to the choir wall.

The liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council made it necessary to redesign the altar. The new altar was on 17 February in 1974 by Bishop Reinhard Lettman ordained . It contains an inscription with the chronogram : "ChrIstVs DoMInVs sVos eCCLesIa ConIVngat" - German: "Christ the Lord may connect his own people in the Church." The sum of the capitalized Latin numerals (Σ CIVDMIVVCCLICIV = MCMLXXIV) gives the year of the altar consecration: 1974.
