The Herz-Jesu-Kloster ( Klösterl ) of the Niederbronn sisters is located at Buttermelcherstraße 10 in the Isarvorstadt in Munich .

history

A previous building erected in 1869 according to plans by Michael Reifenstuel was destroyed by bombs in World War II. Today's monastery complex with church and girls' dormitory was built between 1953 and 1955 based on designs by Alexander von Branca and Herbert Groethuysen .

Architecture and interior design

The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Monastery is the first church in Munich to be constructed entirely from reinforced concrete . It is a three-aisled hall church in exposed concrete; on both sides of the altar is the sisters' choir, which is closed to the nave . Heinrich Kirchner designed the tabernacle and Fritz Koenig the altar block . The organ was made by the Rieger company in 1963. From 1995 the church was renovated.
