Cardiovascular center Rotenburg ad Fulda

The Rotenburg ad Fulda cardiovascular center is an integrated medical center for diagnostics, therapy and rehabilitation in Rotenburg an der Fulda ( Hesse ) with a total of 573 beds.

It combines the departments of Cardiology (cardiological specialist hospital ), cardiac and vascular surgery , neurology , geriatrics and pulmonology in one place. From diagnosis to acute treatment and rehabilitation , the departments of the clinics overlap. The hospital is one of seven hospitals that have been entrusted in the Hessian hospital plan with the supra-local priority task "cardiac surgery location".

history

The hospital was founded in 1974 as an integrated medical center for diagnostics, therapy and rehabilitation. This initially included a cardiological specialist clinic (since 2010 with a chest pain unit ) and a clinic for cardiological rehabilitation and prevention ( follow-up treatment ) of cardiovascular diseases.

In 1989 the center was expanded to include a clinic for cardiovascular surgery at a cost of around 18 million DM. There was political controversy before the expansion. The Hessian CDU government (1987-1991) redeemed an election promise with the approval . The then long waiting times for heart patients should be reduced. Patients from all over Germany were operated on in the HKZ.

The clinic operator, under the management of Heinz Meise at the time, negotiated a special agreement with the health insurance companies: With a flat rate of 19,000 to 19,500 marks per heart operation, Rotenburg was significantly cheaper than other clinics. At that time it was not customary to provide generalized health services and it was a model for the whole of Germany. By the end of 2011, around 100,000 patients had been treated in the department.

On December 1, 2001, bankruptcy proceedings were opened for the hospital. The reason for this was, among other things, claims by the health insurances for budget overruns amounting to approx. It included an operating company for the districts of Hersfeld-Rotenburg and Kassel, the then chief physicians Hartmut Oster and Christian Vallbracht and Pergola KG. This secured medical care in the region and jobs.

In 2003, a clinic for neurological rehabilitation and a practice for physiotherapy, massage and baths were added. Since 2004 the heart and circulatory center has also been a certified nutrition clinic with a teaching kitchen that offers therapies for obese patients . In 2005 a clinic for orthopedic and traumatological rehabilitation and a senior citizens ' residence of the workers' welfare were opened in the Rodenberg clinic.

An institute for clinical research coordinates systematic scientific investigations and supports the development of new medical products and drugs. An affiliated dialysis center treats patients from the region and enables cardiovascular treatment even for patients with kidney disease.

With the opening of a neurological acute clinic, the cardiovascular center was expanded further in 2010. In addition to acute stroke care with a stroke unit , patients with epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, syncope, dizziness, peripheral nerve diseases (PNP) and intervertebral disc damage and as part of the follow-up care of cerebral infarctions are examined and treated.

In 2009 a high-field magnetic resonance tomograph was put into operation, and in 2010 a hybrid operating room was set up. In cooperation with Siemens AG, the cardiovascular center is the first German reference center for cardiovascular imaging to offer an international training platform for medical professionals.

By the end of 2011, a total of over 400,000 patients had been treated. The cardiovascular center is an academic teaching facility of the medicine department of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main.

As one of the largest employers in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district, the clinic center employs around 950 people (as of January 1, 2012).

The cardiovascular center has belonged to the Klinikum Hersfeld-Rotenburg gmbH group of companies since 2016 after the house was bought by the Bad Hersfeld Clinic and the sponsorship was transferred to the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district. The company's official name has been changed since the purchase and is now called Klinikum Hersfeld-Rotenburg. The cardiovascular center was renamed with the purchase and has been called the "cardiovascular center" since the purchase
