Heart route

The hilly route through the foothills of the Alps and the Central Plateau is varied, but challenging to drive on - it is therefore specially marketed for tourists with electric bicycles. It is 709 km long and has an altitude of 13,650 meters . The entire length of the Herzroute is well signposted as Route 99. The 13 stages marked so far are:

After the opening of the first section between Lützelflüh and Willisau in 2003, further stages were added via Burgdorf, Langnau, Thun and Laupen with a total of 240 kilometers of bike trails. In autumn 2014, the stages to Zug were expanded. By spring 2015, the previous 7 stages were extended by 6 towards the east. The Herzroute now runs through the whole of Switzerland from Lake Geneva to Lake Constance .

Heart loops

From 2016, several heart loops were attached to the main route:
2016 Seetal Eschenbach-Lenzburg-Eschenbach (route no.599 / 114 km / 1930 meters in altitude)
2018 Napf Willisau-Langnau-Entlebuch-Willisau (route no.399 / 156 km / 4250 meters in altitude)
2019 Sense Laupen-Laupen (route no.299 / 72 km / 1500 meters in altitude).

Velowegkirchen

As a partner, the Herzroute supports the " Velowegkirchen " (German cycle path churches) project. In 2014, the Reformed Churches Bern-Jura-Solothurn took up the idea of cycle path churches from Germany and chose the word "Velowegkirche" in accordance with Swiss usage. As a result, the first 16 Swiss churches were awarded the label in August 2015. They are all on the heart route.
