Heart school
Heart schools are mostly interdisciplinary medical and therapeutic facilities for people with cardiovascular diseases to train people to behave in a way that is gentle on the heart. The term "heart school" is not protected. This includes cardiological departments of hospitals, psychotherapists , resident doctors, but also paramedical providers. The term has not yet found its way into the specialist medical literature.
Objective and target group
The aim of a cardiovascular school is to comprehensively record and support people with cardiovascular diseases and those at risk. The offer is aimed at patients with chronic cardiovascular diseases ( high blood pressure , coronary heart disease , cardiac insufficiency , cardiac arrhythmias ), but also for their relatives. People with a predisposition for a future cardiovascular disease also receive help from a heart school.
concept
The concept of the heart schools applies to the whole person, not just to his illness and its symptoms. It takes into account the process of the disease in the context of a developing person's entire life story. After the use of the necessary and often life-saving cardiological and / or cardiosurgical measures, the subsequent rehabilitation focuses on lifestyle changes through healthy nutrition, exercise, abstinence from nicotine, and psychological care in order to prevent the disease from progressing.
Heart schools encourage a lifestyle change with medical and emotional support. In addition to a healthy lifestyle, it includes education about the causes of pathological processes and their transformation into healthy processes. Through artistic therapies, mindfulness training, breathing therapy , nutritional training, psychological counseling and exercise therapy , holistic processes are stimulated in people that train self-activity, self-awareness and willingness to open up.
- Scope and form of organization
The heart schools in Germany usually work with an intensive introductory phase (intensive week or weekend) and a one- or six-month phase with monthly three to four-hour courses. A contribution to the costs by the health insurance company is possible depending on the insurance company and individual application.
