Hesburger is a Finnish fast food chain that has more restaurants in Finland than McDonald’s and employs 5,000 people (6,700 worldwide, as of 2016).

Hesburger was founded in 1966 in Naantali by Heikki Salmela . In 1992 there were just twelve restaurants in Finland. In 2016 there were 270 in Finland , 39 in Estonia , 45 in Latvia , 45 in Lithuania , 34 in Russia , three in Germany and three in Ukraine . A restaurant was opened in Iran in 2018. At the end of 2017 (in addition to the restaurants in Finland) there were 44 in Estonia, 43 in Latvia, 50 in Lithuania, 37 in Russia, two in Germany, three in Ukraine, six in Bulgaria and one in Belarus . At least 18 restaurants were opened in Bulgaria.

Hesburger expanded its range and in the 2000s also offered internet cafés, car washes, kebab and pasta restaurants with internet access and a hotel in Turku .

Germany

In Germany there are (as of May 2019) two Hesburger branches in Hamburg on the Reeperbahn . From 2012 to 2014 there was a branch in Cologne's old town on Heumarkt . Further branches, which have now been closed, were in Bad Oldesloe , Lübeck and in Hamburg on Gänsemarkt.
