Please note the note on the applicable legal version.

The law on the deprivation of liberty of mentally ill, mentally weak, drug or alcohol addicts was a Hessian state law for the accommodation of mentally ill people.

It dates from 1952 and at the time it was repealed on August 1, 2017, it was the oldest standard in a federal state to regulate this matter .

On July 3, 2013, the state government presented the legislative proposal for a new "Hessian Accommodation Act (HUG)", which should replace the previous law. On May 4, 2017, the Hessian state parliament passed the Hessian law on assistance with mental illnesses , which came into force on August 1, 2017 and thus repealed the law on the deprivation of the freedom of mentally ill, mentally weak, drug or alcohol addicted people .
