The Hessian Law on Aid for Mental Illnesses , or Mentally Ill Help for short , regulates the placement , compulsory treatment and the legal status and treatment of people placed in the state of Hesse .

On the basis of the law, there are visiting commissions that check whether the tasks of the psychiatric hospitals associated with the accommodation of those affected are being fulfilled.

The Mentally Ill Help Act replaced the law on the deprivation of liberty of the mentally ill, mentally weak, drug addicts or alcohol addicts of May 19, 1952.
