Hexarthra is a genus from the tribe of the rotifers (Rotatoria).
description
Depending on the species, the animals are 100 to 400 µm long and have two lens eyes . There are six oar attachments of different lengths with fan-shaped feather bristles on their torso. Unlike the related species of Filiniidae , there are no spines.
Way of life
The species of the genus Hexarthra are free-living rotifers that can occur in both fresh and salt water.
Systematics
The genus was scientifically described and established in 1854 by the Austrian zoologist Ludwig Karl Schmarda . It contains numerous types:
