Hi5 is an Austrian jazz band.

history

The band Hi5 was founded in 2010 by Chris Norz, Philipp Ossanna and Clemens Rofner in Tyrol .

In winter 2010/2011 the first CD - A Piece of Numbers - was recorded and released in April 2011. Matthias Legner has been part of the band since summer 2011.

In October 2012 Hi5 won the Joe Zawinul Prize at the Austrian competition podium.jazz.pop.rock of the European Union of music competitions for young people in Ried im Innkreis.

The second album - Tangled Simplicity - was also released in October 2012 and presented at various concerts. This was followed by an appearance at the ORF RadioKulturhaus on January 12, 2013.

In May 2013 the band won the Bucharest International Jazz Competition 2013 and in August 2013 the Jimmy Woode European Jazz Award 2013 as part of the Tuscia in Jazz Festival.

The third album Attack Decay Sustain Release was released in October 2014. Concerts took place in various places in Austria, including the Treibhaus , Innsbruck and the Porgy & Bess in Vienna, as well as in Munich, Bern and Montreux.

In October 2016 the band released their fourth album - Fünf - and received the TonArtTirol Publication of the Year award for it.

In February 2017 the band performed in the Viennese jazz club Porgy & Bess.

Music genre

According to their own information, the band plays Minimal Jazz Chamber Music . Music magazines speak of a "sound universe of its own", "located somewhere between jazz, rock, chamber and minimal music" and "means and possibilities of jazz ... extraordinary conceptual bridge to 'chamber music' ... unique connection between these otherwise mostly repulsive poles" .
