The European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY, English. European Union of Music Competitions for Youth ) is a European umbrella organization for over 50 national and international music competitions for young people. The registered association based in Munich was founded in the 1960s.

The purpose is to develop and expand the musical education of European youth. To this end, the EMCY organizes Europe-wide concerts (with and without orchestra ), broadcasts, tours, award ceremonies, master classes and courses for outstanding competition winners.

Every year, thousands of musicians under the age of 25 take part in EMCY competitions, and the projects, sometimes in collaboration with the European Broadcasting Union, reach people across the continent. The international board consists of five representatives, which has been led by President Paul Scholer since 2012. In 2010 the EMCY celebrated its 40th birthday in Heerlen , Netherlands .

The office is located in the premises of Jugend musiziert in Munich .

Member competitions

Participation in national membership competitions is usually reserved for nationals or residents of the respective country. Participants from all over the world are admitted to international membership competitions. Also, these often include categories that change every year.

Projects

EMCY arranges Europe-wide performance and training opportunities together with its member competitions and partners. These concerts, tours, workshops and master classes are international meeting places for young musicians and for many they are important for their musical careers.

The association also holds conferences for competition organizers (e.g. in Barcelona 2009, St. Petersburg 2011, Ried 2012 and Bratislava 2013) and music teachers. Certain topics are dealt with that will help them come together, learn from one another and develop new bilateral and multilateral cooperation projects.
