The Hicret Mosque ( Turkish Hicret Camii , German emigration mosque ) was built from 1993 to 1996 in Lauingen (Danube) . The foundation stone of the three-storey mosque with a minaret (25.5 m), designed as a “domed mosque”, took place on June 19, 1993, and the inauguration on March 2, 1996.

The prayer room holds a total of 400 people, 100 of which are in the separate women's area.

history

The building owner and sponsor of the mosque and the cultural center is the “Beistandsverein Türkischer Arbeiter Dillingen eV” founded on August 25, 1973. The association later joined the umbrella organization DITIB . In 1992, the association, which had 130 members at the time, applied for a building permit for an educational and association center.

planning

The planning was carried out by the Augsburg civil engineer Hüseyin Portakal. The originally estimated 1.8 million marks in costs could ultimately be reduced to one million through own work. The city of Lauingen took over eight percent of the construction costs (as well as for sacred buildings of other religious communities); the Turkish embassy in Bonn also gave a grant.

The then mayor ( CSU ) and designated integration officer of the FDP , Georg Barfuß , succeeded in breaking down reservations among the population and in convincing the city council of the need for a mosque of their own. Barfuß commented on a first draft of the mosque, initially planned without a minaret, with the statement: “I thought you wanted a mosque? Either you build something good or nothing at all! "

activities

The mosque community in Lauingen stated that it acted as an intermediary between Kombassan Holding and local politicians.

The mosque offers German and computer courses as well as tutoring for schoolchildren. The sports and football department TG Lauingen was awarded champions of its class in the 99/00 season and was the fairest amateur team in Bavaria.
