Hideaki Wakui ( Japanese. 涌 井 秀 章 , Wakui Hideaki ; born June 21, 1986 in Matsudo , Chiba Prefecture ) is a Japanese baseball player on the position of pitcher . He has played for the Seibu Lions in the Japanese Pacific League since his professional debut in 2005 . In 2009 he was awarded the Sawamura Eiji Prize for the league's best pitcher.

Wakui began playing softball in elementary school and played baseball in the Little Senior League ( ritoru shinia ) in middle school . He then attended the private Yokohama High School, which advanced to the semifinals in spring Kōshien 2003 with Yoshihisa Naruse, who was one year older , and to the quarter finals at the summer Kōshien 2004.

In the 2004 draft , Wakui was selected in the first round by the Seibu Lions. In the 2005 season he already had 13 appearances as a starter and has been part of the Lions' regular rotation since 2006 with over 20 starts per year. In 2006 he was first selected for the All-Star Game , in which he then participated again in 2007, 2009 and 2010. In 2007 and 2009, Wakui led the Pacific League in Wins . In 2008 he was elected MVP of the Climax Series , the playoffs, and then won the championship title with the Lions in the Nihon Series , in which he opened the first (win) and fifth (loss) game. In 2009 Seibu missed the playoffs, but Wakui was awarded the Sawamura Eiji Prize for a strong season performance (16-6 in 27 starts, ERA 2.30, 4 shutouts) and also received the Golden Glove , which is awarded annually to the best fielder (equivalent to Major League Gold Glove ).

For the Japanese national baseball team, Wakui took part in the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 and in the second World Baseball Classic in 2009 , when he only threw in 3 1/3 innings as a relief, but one, alongside the strong Japanese pitchers Yū Darvish , Daisuke Matsuzaka and Hisashi Iwakuma Win and a hold contributed to Japan's tournament victory.

In 2010, Wakui opened the season for the Lions for the third year in a row as kaimaku-tōshu ("opening pitcher ") and led the Seibu rotation with 14 wins.
